Let’s back up. Gretchen’s oldest son and Allison’s girl/boy twins have known each other since they were babies. They went to preschool together, split for elementary and middle school and met back up in high school.
Allison’s son has a girlfriend, so he had his date locked in. Gretchen’s son and Allison’s daughter are friends. A few weeks before prom, Gretchen’s son announced (to Gretchen) that he was going to ask Allison’s daughter.
